Writing that a pandemic currently plagues the world is quite too much of a frequent news to put out here. But it is what it is.

Okay, let’s get down to it understands that, more than ever, writers are faced with a test of time and freedom – a little too much freedom within the confined space of their homes. While almost every business has been affected by this pandemic, the business of creativity has expanded without doubt.

This competition is currently being held right here on this website and promised to be exciting and adventurous. Entrants have the opportunity to read others’ submissions anonymously and see diversity in thinking and confinement.

Together Alone is a call to writers to once again expand their creative powers in writing. 200 words is quite a confined space. And, frequent stay-at-home orders should have gotten you so used to confined spaces.

While you are free to break rules of conventional writing, the following are made of dry broom sticks. Please don’t bend them.

  • Write a fiction or creative non-fiction in English of up to 200 words. Touch us within that confined space. Keep in mind the competition’s theme “Together Alone” and the fact that we are in a trying time of a pandemic. The story should be focused on that.
  • You may submit just once. Dual or more entries from a single participant will disqualify such a person.
  • We like to read anything but erotica.

  • On July 1, all approved entries will be published for public reading. Please check back here on that date to confirm if your work has been accepted for consideration and be sure to tell your friends about it.
  • The anonymous judges’ decision will be based on quality and is final. There will be no voting.
  • The short list will be announced on July 7.
  • The top 3 winners along with 2 others will be declared on July 15 and given prize monies along with prize certificates.

Note: All entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Effiong Samuel team of judges which will exercise its judgement, in consultation with the prize host, in ruling on questions of
eligibility and prize worthiness. The ruling of the host on questions of eligibility is final, and no further correspondence will be entered into. Human race, skin color, nationality, language, and opinions are not a basis for judging entries.
